Most of us look at our ideals, say how far we are from them,
and get depressed. But it is heroic simply to say,
"Here are my ideals," state them before the world, and then
spend your life trying to live up to them.
Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years.
We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle
the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.
The human soul has still greater need of the ideal than of the real. It is by the real that we exist; it is by the ideal that we live.
Victor Hugo
I must uphold my ideals, for perhaps the time will come when I shall be able to carry them out.
