I must go to Nature disarmed of perspective and stretch
myself like a large transparent canvas upon her in
the hope that, my submission being perfect, the imprint
of a beautiful and useful truth would be taken.
The subtlety of nature is greater many times over than
the subtlety of the senses and understanding.
As long as I retain my feeling and my passion for Nature,
I can partly soften or subdue my other passions and resist
or endure those of others.
